By car

From J36 on the M6 take the A591 to Windermere.

As you enter Windermere town turn left onto the A5074 at the Nat West bank (signposted “Windermere Town Centre, Bowness Town Centre”). Follow the one-way system through the centre of Windermere and continue down the hill towards the Lake.

At the bottom of the hill go straight across the mini roundabout, then take the first left, which is again the A5074. You are now on Kendal Road. May Cottage is 300 yards along, on the right-hand side. Our private car-park is down the driveway at the rear of the property

By train/bus

Take the train or bus to Windermere train station. From there catch bus service 599 to the Ferry Pier in Bowness. This just 3 minutes walk from May Cottage. Alternatively a taxi ride from Windermere station will be around £5.

When is check in and check out at May Cottage?
Check-in is 3pm to 8pm. although, if driving, you can park from 12 noon. Check-out is 10.30am

Sorry, but May Cottage is NOT dog friendly
Do you allow children to stay in May Cottage?
Sorry, but May Cottage is an adult only B&B. So all guests need to be 16 or over.
How far is May Cottage from town?
May Cottage is just 200 metres from the centre of Bowness – about 2 minutes walk
How far is May Cottage from Lake Windermere and the boats?
May Cottage is just 400 metres from the piers on Lake windermere – about 5 minutes walk
Do we need a car to get around?
A var will help you get to the more remote parts of the lake District. But a car is not a necessity. The area has a good bus service, and there are plenty of boats to take you around Windermere. You can also hire bikes at various locations. So many of the key sites can be accessed easily by public transport.
Where is the nearest railway station?
The nearest railway station to May Cottage is in Windermere town. This is about one and a half miles away. Trains into Windermere are hourly and go to Oxenholme on the west coast mainline, where you can catch trains to London, Edinburgh, Manchester and many other places.
Do you have Spa passes?
Yes. All guests at May Cottage are entitled to free passes to a local luxury hotel gym and Spa. The Spa is just two minutes walk away. All you need to do is remember to bring your costume and a pool towel.
